For those who do not know my story. In 2011 my husband lost his job, I started Avon to supplement our savings. At this time a 500 year flood hit our area leaving us homeless with 4 kids and only me bringing in a small amount of money with Avon. It took 5 long months to move back into 2 rooms of our home. We had 1 bedroom, a bathroom, a fridge and microwave. A group called Agape helped us so very much to put us back together. When they found out how bad our situation was 20 people showed up 2 days later and started working on our home. In just a week we had walls, floors, electric and plumbing in all rooms again. I know how these people feel and will be doing more to help. Once we know family and friends are safe in the area I will be hosting a fundraiser to send some stuffed animals and more of these packs via them. Show your support here! Waste not want not was a motto to live by for many, many generations. Most people today do not even think about keeping stale bread. They feed it to the birds or dog, toss it out in the trash and never think twice about it. This recipe from a depression era cook book shows exactly how everything was stretched out and used.  Stale bread and very cheap if not home grown cabbage becomes a meal or side dish with a little imagination. To create more of a full meal a ground beef filling like one uses for stuffed cabbage would fill this out.  As would a layer of kielbasa or crumbled bacon and some hard boiled egg. This is a Christmas delight for our family but it's also one of the first recipes I make each autumn. The nuts from our black walnut tress start falling  and it just puts me in the mood for this sweet nut filled bread. The swirled patterns on the inside are apart of this treats appeal. The kids love watching the rolls get put into the pan and guess what type of patterns they will bake out to be. If you are not a lover of nuts, other fillings can be used. Nutella makes a very tasty bread as does most jams or preserves. Poppy seed filling isn't uncommon nor is apricot.   I have even made it with a cinnamon filling much like one uses in cinnamon rolls. I love stuffed peppers. They are just fun and yummy. This was a new filling though. I don't often find ones with chicken and I have never seen one using stuffing! Usually I share recipes from the past but this time I'm sharing one of our Avon recipes. To feature some of our amazing home products we have highlighted our Avon Living Book with this delish recipe for Caramelized Pear Turnovers. Avon has this wonderful line of baking tools. From sifters to servers this recipe utilizes those products. The turnovers can be filled with anything you want, but as someone with a tree full of pears about to start dropping I was pretty happy to see this one!  The Avon Living Sweet or Savory Dough Press  is awesome for more then just these. Pierogis, pocket sandwiches, empanadas or hand pies are all made a little easier with this tool! The recipe was created by Frances Boswell, food stylist and is featured on page 23 of our living book.
