Brussels Sprouts Supreme, vintage side dish recipe

My family is 50/50 on the Brussel sprouts. Three of us love them while the other three not at all. I personally do not use frozen sprouts but they are more then fine if you like them and a whole lot less work to prep.
This dish is a great side for hearty meats such as meatloaf or a nice roast. Brussel sprouts are also a good side dish to serve up with game meats such as venison and elk.

One of the ingredients has fallen out of favor mostly because here in America the chestnut trees had a plague and the flavorful chestnut became quite scarce. Now due to a few organizations that have been working on bringing the trees back this holiday treat is making a come back. Added with a global economy the chestnut is much easier to find in stores as well and they give this creamy side dish a flavorful nuttiness that is both delish and satisfying.
