Recipe of the day 12/25/16 ~ Bread stuffing
I know you just saw melted fat and wanted to run! lol it's ok you can replace with butter, lard, bacon grease, coconut oil what ever. This can be baked in a side dish as well just cover it to keep from getting too dry. This is basic and so many variations can be made. I'll list here a few additives that can be tossed in and mixed with others. I'll include a couple much loved combos in our home. Gluten free breads can also be used but make sure you have enough fat to keep them moist.
Additives
Meat:
- Sage sausage,
- chorizo,
- bacon,
- crab
Veggies:
- onion
- celery
- shallot
- fennel
Fruit:
- diced apples
- diced pear
- raisins
- dried fruit tid bits
- cranberries dried or fresh
Crunchies:
- walnuts
- pecans
- almonds
- sunflower seed
- pumpkins seed
- chia seed
Combos:
This is our traditional stuffing on our home. Often eaten as leftovers as it's own meal with a little gravy.
